Vacation? Don’t forget these beach bag essentials!

Ready to hit the beach this summer? There are several items you don’t want to be without! For starters, you’ll need a sturdy, roomy beach bag to hold all of your essentials for a day of fun in the sun. Look for one that’s large enough to hold a beach towel, sunscreen, and other large items, but also has smaller interior pockets to safeguard keys, a wallet, and other small items. A pair of colorful flipflops and a sweet beach cover-up will keep you comfy when you’re not splashing in the waves. You can choose from several styles of cover-ups, from sarong wraps to tunics to loose knit dresses that can actually take you from the beach to lunch in a flash. (A classic cut: Plunge Cover-up Tunic; $33, victoriassecret.com.) You’ll also want a chic pair of shades to protect your eyes, and a hat to keep your face protected from the sun. It doesn’t need to be worthy of the Kentucky Derby, but a floppy hat with a large brim does offer the best protection from harsh rays. (A cute pick: Aqua Straw Crochet Floppy Hat; $48, bloomingdales.com.) If you color your hair, bring a UV spray to spritz on strands to protect them from fading. And if your hair tends to misbehave when exposed to the wind and ocean spray, a cute hair clip will also come...

Summer’s hot hue: Coral Pink

Coral pink, that perennial summer “it” color, is hot again this year, and it’s so versatile and flattering that there’s no reason not to wear it every day of the week. Color-shy? Here are a few easy ways to work it into your summer wardrobe. If you’re feeling bold, go head to toe in a sweet sundress (like the Midnight Masquerade Strapless Coral Dress, $62; lulus.com). Want to really stand out? Choose accessories in turquoise or yellow–also hot colors for summer. But no coral pink shoes, bag, etc.; matchy-matchy is never in season. A coral pink top can inject a dose of happy into any neutral wardrobe, but if a top is just too rote for you, switch it up by putting the color on the bottom and highlight your tanned, toned legs with a pair of short-shorts in a bright coral hue. (Avoid the gym look by sticking to denim, not cotton: Moto Coral Denim Cut-off Hotpants; $55, topshop.com.) At the beach, show off your tan in a coral pink swimsuit. This is one time when it’s acceptable to “match” by pairing your suit with a pedicure in a zingy coral shade like Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear in Caribbean Coral ($3; drugstores). If you’re shy about color, dip a toe into the trend with an accessory. You can tote all your summer essentials in a bright bag, like...

Four Cute Shoe Ideas for all your Summer Events

Unless you live in a climate that’s summer-like all year ’round, the arrival of summer and warmer temperatures means a change in footwear. Here are four pairs to get you started, for every setting from the backyard to the office. For running around town with girlfriends or attending a backyard barbecue, you’ll want something comfortable and sturdy, but cuter than basic flip-flops. Wedges and espadrilles are a dressier alternative to flip-flops (and offer a little height if you want it!), but are still easier to walk in than stilettos, so you don’t end your night limping. Charlotte Russe has a great pair of Nautical Knotted Rafia Wedges in a versatile neutral brown; $35.50, charlotterusse.com. Summer being, of course, the unofficial wedding season, and a great time for outdoor weddings in nontraditional areas (say, on a beach), you’ll want to have at least one pair of flat, dressy sandals that will look good with a casual/dressy outfit and won’t sink into the sand. GoJane has a pair of Strappy Glitter Sandals (in gold or silver) for just $17.60 that would pair well with a variety of outfits. At the office, open-toed sandals might not be an option, but if the nicer weather means you’re heading outside for a lunchtime stroll, and you don’t want to pack a pair of sneakers along with your pumps, consider a pair of bright, cute...
