Six eye makeup mistakes that add years

Most women would probably say that they feel prettier, younger, and sexier when they’re wearing a little makeup. But wearing the wrong kind of makeup can actually make you look worse, highlighting fine lines and adding years to your face.

Eye makeup, in particular, can make or break your look. Check through this list of common eye makeup errors that add years, and learn how to correct them.

1. Applying mascara on the lower lashes. This casts shadows, which exagerates your dark circles. It also has a tendency to highlight saggy eyes, fine lines, and discoloration near the eyes. Stick to mascara on the upper lashes only!

2. Incorrectly applying eyeliner. Don’t rim your lower lids, which makes eyes look smaller. Instead, trace the upper lid, thickening the line at the outer corners for a mini eye lift.

3. Using shimmery shadows. A touch of shimmer at the inner corners or on the brow bone can lift the eyes, making them appear wider and brighter. But using it all over or at the outer corners can actually highlight those fine lines.

4. Using anything super-bright. It should go without saying that anytime you use “look at me” shades on your face, well, people are going to look at you. More specifically, their attention will be drawn to the spot where you place the color. So if you don’t want to highlight droopy lids or wrinkles, stick to neutral shades around your eyes.

5. Incorrectly applying concealer. The skin under the eyes thins with age, so concealer can cake more easily. Use a small brush to apply only to the dark areas, not all over, and prep with eye cream to hydrate the area.

6. Forgetting to groom. Tweeze and comb your brows, and curl your lashes. These two simple grooming tricks are like a quick visual lift for your eyes.
